Everything You Want to Know About Orthodontic Elastics

Everything You Want to Know About Orthodontic Elastics

Orthodontic elastics are small rubber bands that come in a rainbow of fun colours as well as a selection of neutral colours. Here's what you should know about your orthodontic elastics in order to get the most out of your braces treatment.

Ligatures wrap around each individual bracket in order to keep the braces archwire in place. These elastics stay in place at all times, and are only removed by the orthodontist during your regular adjustment appointments.

Ligature elastics are always a part of braces treatment, however there's another type of elastics that some patients need for additional support called interarch bands.

Interarch Bands

Interarch bands help to align your jaw and fix your bite.

When interarch bands are part of your orthodontic treatment you will only ever take them off if necessary in order to eat, brush your teeth or floss. Whatever your dentist or orthodontist prescribes, be sure to follow their instructions exactly in order to keep your treatment on track.

Interarch elastics must be replaced daily as part of your orthodontic treatment.

A Rainbow of Colours to Choose From

Orthodontic elastics come in a wide range of colour options. Maybe you'll enjoy changing out the colours each time you visit your orthodontist. There are limitless colour combinations you can choose, and this can make braces treatment a bit more fun for patients.

Or perhaps you're a person who would prefer to have a discrete look and will choose clear or silver coloured elastics that blend in with their braces. You'll get to decide what suits your style every time you visit your orthodontist!
