Say 'Cheese' - Look Great in Pictures while Wearing Braces

Everyone wants to look great in pictures. If you're wondering how to look your very best in pictures throughout your orthodontic treatment, here are a few tips to help you out.

Good Oral Hygiene

No matter which type of braces you have, having clean teeth is essential to looking your best in pictures.

Braces, wires, springs, rubber bands, and other orthodontic appliances can attract food and plaque, which could stain or damage teeth if not brushed away.

Keep your teeth clean and healthy by brushing after every meal and flossing often.

To floss teeth when you have braces, just feed the floss through the space between the main arch wire and the portion of the tooth closest to the gum. Then use a gentle sawing motion. Move the floss up and down each side of the two teeth. Be gentle and don't use too much force around the arch wire.

Use your interdental brush to clean your braces and between your teeth and the archwires of your braces. Cleaning your braces will make your smile look great.

A good oral hygiene routine will mean you're ready for those surprise pictures but if you know you're about to have your picture taken, why not take a couple of minutes to go and brush your teeth for extra sparkle.

Just Smile!

A happy, confident smile always looks great. Now that you've brushed and flossed you have nothing to hide!

You may need a little time to adjust to smiling with braces on. Practice smiling at yourself in the mirror...not fake smiling...real smiling!

Own your braces, and don’t hold back your smile in pictures.  Keep reminding yourself that you look great with your braces!

Go With Colour

Turn your braces into an accessory and express yourself with them!

Braces elastics come in a rainbow of colours. Choose a colour that suits you best. You could try picking a colour that looks nice with your eyes or your skin tone, or go wild and pick a colour that really stands out.

Try darker coloured elastics to make your teeth look whiter, and avoid white elastics since they can make your teeth look darker or even yellow.

Stay away from brown or earthy greens since these colours can make it look as if you have food stuck in your teeth.

Of course, if you can't decide which colour you want, you could alway opt for a rainbow smile!

Make-Up Options for Braces

If you're an outgoing person looking to draw attention to your braces, put on some red lipstick! Choose a darker shade that compliments your skin tone and makes your teeth look whiter.

If you'd rather draw attention away from your braces, choose a neutral lip colour and try applying more dramatic eye makeup. Try a smokey eye or experiment with eyeshadow colours that complement the colour of your eyes.

A well-shaped dramatic eyebrow look can help to draw attention away from your braces.

Choose Less Noticeable Braces

If the idea of having your picture taken while wearing traditional metal braces makes you cringe, here are some low profile orthodontic treatment options you may want to consider:

If you feel self-conscious even thinking about smiling while wearing braces Invisalign clear aligners may be the perfect solution.

Invisalign orthodontic treatment is a discrete and convenient way to straighten your teeth. The clear aligners are almost completely invisible when worn, and they're removable! So you won't ever have to think twice about smiling for the camera!

Lingual Braces

Lingual braces are attached to the backs of your teeth. Lingual braces allow you to smile freely without anyone being able to see that you are have braces.

In-Ovation Self-Ligating braces are smaller than traditional metal braces. And there are no ties or elastics to trap food.

Ceramic Braces

‘Translucent’ ceramic braces have brackets that are made of a tooth-coloured ceramic material that blends in with your teeth, making your braces less noticeable in pictures.
