Great Orthodontic Treatment Options for Busy Adults

Great Orthodontic Treatment Options for Busy Adults

It was once unusual for adults to undergo orthodontic treatment, but now, thanks to new lower profile treatment options, more and more adults are choosing to correct orthodontic issues. Today our Maple Ridge orthodontists share a few treatment options suitable for adults.

Image Challenges That Go With Adult Braces

Often adults considering straightening their teeth feel that braces could make them look 'too young' or immature, since braces are usually associated with children and teens. This leaves some adults concerned that metal braces just aren't compatible with their professional image or their day-to-day style.

While much of the social stigma that used to be associated with adult braces is falling by the wayside as they become more common, it's important for adults to remember that braces are like any other medical treatment and there’s no shame in taking good care of your oral health!

Ideal Treatment Options For Adults

Adults and teens looking to straighten their smile without the need for metal brackets and wires now have a number of more discreet orthodontic treatment options to choose from. These lower profile options are often able to treat many of the same issues as traditional metal braces. Here are some of the options available here at Ridge Meadows Orthodontics:

  • Invisalign - This series of clear plastic aligners straightens your teeth much like traditional braces do, but completely without metal and wires. Because the aligners are made of transparent plastic, they’re pretty much invisible when worn, so most people won’t even notice them.
  • Lingual Braces - These braces are similar to traditional braces, except you wear them on the backs of your teeth. Because they face in toward your tongue, they’re difficult for others to see unless you make a point of showing them.
  • In-Ovation Self Ligating Braces - "Self-ligating" means that while these braces have a metal construction like traditional braces, and are placed in the fronts of your teeth, they're more low profile and streamlined in appearance because there are no ties or elastics.
  • Translucent Cosmetic Braces - Translucent cosmetic braces are essentially the same as metal braces, except that the brackets are tooth-coloured, not metal. So while they're not exactly transparent, they blend into the colour of your teeth so that they appear to be.
